The Inland Empire (colloquially known as the I.E.) is a metropolitan area and region of Southern California. The Inland Empire sits directly east of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The term "Inland Empire" is most commonly used in reference to the U.S. Census Bureau's federally defined Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metropolitan area, which covers more than . The metropolitan area consists of Riverside County and San Bernardino County and, according to the US Census, is home to over 4 million people and is the 13th most populous metropolitan area in the United States, and the third largest in the state of California. This is a list of museums, defined for this context as institutions (including nonprofit organizations, government entities, and private businesses) that collect and care for objects of cultural, artistic, scientific, or historical interest and make their collections or related exhibits available for public viewing. Also included are non-profit and university art galleries. Museums that exist only in cyberspace (i.e., virtual museums) are not included.
